Tax refund of donations applicable?

Hello!

I know for some organisations it is possible to claim a tax refund on donations done to that service. E.g. noyb from Austria offers such a thing for people living in Austria or Germany. Can this be done similarly for deSEC, or is this not (yet) possible?

Best regards
Michael

Hi,

Yes, we do provide tax receipts according to German fiscal law upon request!

Note that in Germany, authorities accept the bank’s payment receipt as proof for donations up to 300 €/year for a given recipient, and a tax receipt is only needed above that.

(To be precise, it doesn’t lead to a tax refund, but allows you to deduct the donation from the taxable income.)

Stay secure,
Peter

Do you also provide this for Austria? AFAIK a bank payment receipt is not enough here. At least with noyb I had to fill out a form which was auto-submitted to the tax authorities. It then simply shows up in your tax report, nothing else to do. Unfortunately I’m unaware of how this exactly works in the background, so I can’t be more precise

Good you clarified what this is about for other readers. If any donation would be directly refunded, such organizations would flousrish beyond immagination ^^

We will be happy to provide you with a tax receipt upon request, but it’s a piece of paper (or PDF). I cannot tell you for sure that the Austrian authorities will accept it, but I’m pretty sure they do (within the EU generally). For definite information, you will have to contact an Austrian tax expert or your local authority.

We can’t directly put your donation information into the Austrian fiscal systems, as we don’t have access there.

Thank you for considering a donation to deSEC!

Stay secure,
Peter
